Resident Evil 4 coming ?

Our Buddie Mr. HoRrOr just sent us an email with a nice scoop about an upcoming fourth movie for the Resident Evil series. He read it at the Hollywood Reporter and i have to say that it sounds very nice. But read on for what our buddie has to report:

Hey guys it's Mr HoRrOr, heres some news on the "Resident Evil" series that I came across. It seems that they are already in the very early stages of planning a fourth film which will take place in Japan. Meanwhile, principal Photography will begin on "Afterlife" this fall. "Germany's Constantin Film and its genre production shingle, Paul W.S. Anderson and Jeremy Bolt's Impact Pictures, are ramping up preparations for a fourth edition of their successful zombie franchise "Resident Evil" before the third film in the series has even begun shooting.

Constantin head of production Martin Moskowicz said in Cannes that the third film, "Resident Evil: Afterlife," will shift locations to shoot in Australia, with principle photography planned for November or December. "Resident Evil 4" will be set in Tokyo, and Impact/Constantin is looking to shoot the film in Japan. "Afterlife" will be set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun with mutant zombies. "Afterlife" will play in the Nevada desert with the Aussie outback standing in for the American wasteland. In the final reel, the action will shift to Japan, setting up the fourth edition.

Milla Jovovich is set to reprise her signature role as zombie slayer extraordinaire Alice though no formal deal has been signed yet. Paul W.S. Anderson, who together with partner Bolt will produce "Afterlife" through their Constantin-controlled shingle Impact Pictures, is finishing the script for the third edition. Anderson directed the first "Resident Evil" and penned the sequel "Resident Evil: Apocalypse." THX to Mr. HoRrOr for sending us this scoop !

If you haven’t seen the end of the third Resident Evil movie Resident Evil Extinction yet, you might want to avoid these Resident Evil 4 movie spoilers. Io9 had the chance to interview the director of the Resident Evil movies, Paul W.S. Anderson, and asked him about the fourth live-action movie that’s being planned right now.

Question: Are We Going To See An Army Of Alices?
Answer: We’re in very early discussions about all of it, so it’s not a definite thing by any means. Mila would like to return, and I would certainly like to see the franchise continue. Last year there were, I think, eight ‘threequels’ got released. Rush Hour 3, Pirates 3, Spider-Man 3…but there was eight of them. Shrek 3. Six out of the eight, the third movie did worse business than the second movie. There were only two where the third movie did better than the second movie. That was Bourne Ultimatum and Resident Evil. So, you know, it is quite an achievement for a franchise to keep growing like that, and we all feel that the audience is excited to see another one clearly. We would like, if we could put it together, we would do it.

Question: Right, but hypothetically how would you go about using all of those Alices?
Answer: I’m not going to tell you that. [laughs]… but we would.

Question: You would?
Answer: We would, yes. Absolutely.

Jovovich Replaced In Resident Evil 4?

Jovovich Replaced In Resident Evil 4? Resident Evil: Extinction spends a lot of its running time just setting up another movie, so it’s no surprise that there’s already talk of a Resident Evil 4. What is surprising is that it may not feature the franchise’s star, Milla Jovovich.

Ali Larter, one of the stars of TV’s Heroes and Jovovich’s co-star in Resident Evil: Extinction showed up at the film’s promotional press day in Las Vegas and answered questions about the possibility of another RE movie. According to Shock Til You Drop, she says she’s already heard “whispers” of a fourth film and, surprisingly, seems to think it may be a spin off from the Alice character arc we’re familiar with into a story focused on her Claire Redfield character.

Personally, I’d love to know what she’s smoking. Yes, the way Resident Evil 3 ends I suppose there’s room for a spin off involving Claire. She has second billing in RE 3, so I guess if you’re going to make a movie using some other character besides Alice it would have to be her. But she’s upstaged in nearly every scene by just about anyone and everyone who happens to be in front of the camera next to her.

It’s not that Larter’s bad, it’s just that the character has no personality. I very nearly omitted any mention of her entirely from my review of Extinction, Claire is such a non-factor. Yes she gets a lot of screen time, but most of it’s pretty meaningless. Oded Fehr gets the movie's best character moment and Milla Jovovich gets all the cool stunts. Ali Larter wears a hat, and that’s about all there is to Claire Redfield. Definitely not enough to deserve her own movie.
