PRINCES William and Harry are organising a massive pop concert to mark the 10th anniversary of their mother's death.
The gig will be staged at the new Wembley Stadium on July 1 next year, which would have been Diana's 46th birthday.
The emotional show, which the princes will host, will be held a month before the anniversary of her death in a Paris car crash on August 31, 1997.
The concert is the boys' idea and they want it to be an upbeat, joyous celebration of her life and work - and expect more than 90,000 of her fans to be present.
The Live Aid-style charity extravaganza will boast A-list performers from Britain and America and will be beamed to millions on TV worldwide.
Sir Elton John is likely to bring the star-studded show to an emotional close with a rendition of his Diana tribute, Candle in the Wind. One source said last night: "There will not be a dry eye in the house."
Organisers are confident that the concert will be the largest - and grandest - ever staged. Diana was a huge music fan, and attended Live Aid with Prince Charles - and 72,000 other fans - at the old Wembley in July 1985.
The princes wanted the most public celebration possible of Diana's life.
An insider said last night: "The princes wanted to organise something very special to mark not only the anniversary of their mother's death but also her birthday. This will be a spectacular day. The boys want to show the world that their beloved mother will never be forgotten." The event is set to be the first concert to be held at the new £757million stadium after it opens next May.
Diana's friends, including Sting, Phil Collins and George Michael, are expected to among those invited to perform. Her sons are also keen to include Girls Aloud, Robbie Williams and the winner of The X Factor.
William, 24, and Harry, 22, may make a short speech in memory of their mother. Proceeds from the bash may go to the Princess's favourite causes, such as homeless charity Centrepoint, or others the princes favour, like William's African conservation group Tusk Trust.
A source said: "Diana adored music and loved going to concerts. Her sons have inherited her passion. William and Harry want this to be a concert that everyone will remember forever." Palace spokesman Paddy Harveson declined to discuss details last night, but said: "We're considering a number of options on how best to commemorate next year. William and Harry will make a decision in due course."
WHO COULD GET THE GIG?
Some of Diana's and the Princes' favourite acts will be approached in the next few months and they could include...

Girls Aloud, girl band favourites of both Harry and William
Robbie Williams, who met Di at World Aids Awareness Day in 1994
